What we do

HAZOPs without the hassle

A HAZOP (HAZard and OPerability) study is one of the most effective and thorough engineering project risk management tools available to the people who design and manage industrial, process, or manufacturing facilities.

It brings the design and operations experts together in one room to ask and answer the core questions of process integrity in real time.

BUT if the study isn’t run by a good facilitator, it can be an exercise fraught with time wasting and politics – not to mention a load of laborious documentation.

Ekkremon delivers the independent, expert facilitation and documentation services that make sure your HAZOP study gets completed with maximum focus, meaningful results and minimum hassle.

Ekkremon also facilitates other technical reviews and process studies:

ELDR

Engineering Layout & Design Reviews

JSEA

Job Safety & Environment Analysis

SiD

Safety in Design workshops

HACCP

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point assessments

If there’s a technical process that needs a multi-disciplinary team review – Ekkremon can facilitate.

”Had a debrief with the GOI team regarding the recently conducted HACCP assessment….Consensus was that Kathleen did a great job of facilitating and keeping the motivation up and all of us on track. Although she is known for her HAZOP facilitation, we thought that her questioning for clarification was useful and prompted discussion.”

GOI Allansford, May 2019

Through our process facilitation, we engage your team, empower all stakeholders, and deliver a valuable outcome.  You get the best out of your team to achieve what you need.

A quality HAZOP study is:

  • a team-based audit of a completed engineering design, that
  • explores possibilities and consequences of deviations from normal conditions of the design intent, to
  • make sure there are safeguards in place, for the
  • protection of personnel, public, property, product and the planet.

It’s all about People and Process

Well run HAZOP studies have a strong focus on the people & process involved in the review. A strong external facilitator can be invaluable in keeping the process on track.

“Thanks again for your help, Kath. It was a great HAZOP.”

Bulla Dairy Foods, April 2024

“Excellent. Helpful. Very professional.”

FGB Natural Products, March 2024

“Thanks Kath, that was the best HAZOP!”

Snack Brands Australia, February 2024

“Thanks a lot Kath! Again it was great session to make aware all participants on what is to come, and due diligence our design.

Our Experience

We are qualified with a B.E.(Hons)/B.Sc. and Cert IV TAA, and have over 30 years industry experience in engineering, production management, lean, continuous improvement, sustainability and consulting.
We have been facilitating successful HAZOP (and other!) studies since 2007 and have served repeat clients across multiple industries, including:

  • Food, Beverage and Dairy
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Environmental Services
  • Mining and Metals
  • Construction Materials
  • Energy generation
  • Green Energy
  • FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods)
  • Printing

We have applied HAZOP to:

  • continuous wet and dry process
  • batch operations
  • materials handling systems
  • filling and packaging lines
  • electrical infrastructure
  • manufacturing plant and to
  • new, existing and modified process plants.

We are trained and practiced in the original ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) approach as developed by ICI plc in the late 1960s, and have successfully applied the technique and made it relevant to all industries beyond oil, gas and chemicals.

Our HAZOP studies are conducted in accordance with Australian Standard AS 61882- HAZOP Studies Application Guide, 2003.

”You know your stuff and you make something that could be dull rather good.”

Mount Gambier, SA, February 2018

We work in partnership with our clients to ensure that the outcomes of the HAZOP study deliver outstanding results through our focus on the people and the process – not just the engineering and technology.

“Very good – good blend of energy and knowledge that made the entire event easy to move with.”
“Good facilitator – kept it on track.”
“Would use you again.”
